True Spirit

I meet a lot of interesting people in my line of work.  Fortunately, many become friends and while I don’t see them in person much, social media has allowed our connection to remain.   However, there are those who bring such a glow of joy that they are hard to forget.

Ronda and Michael’s home was amazing.   The personal touch they sprinkled throughout the home made this inconspicuous structure magical.    It wasn’t just a house, it was a space that they loved to share with friends and it was a memory building place for raising their boys.   Ronda’s infectious spirit simply radiated.   Her smile warmed my heart and I left their home feeling full and light.    She even opened up about her battle with cancer.  You would never know of her struggle because the joy covered the war within her.  Yesterday, she lost her fight at the age of 50.

I write this because her small presence in my life impacted me.   She might have never known this, but her example of living life with fullness, joy, gratitude, and mindfulness has been inspirational for me.   I really believe that even the smallest encounters with people bring about the biggest effect.

I guess knowing that we are all capable of giving a piece of ourselves to others on a daily basis and how it might change their outlook is reason enough to be the example we wish to see in the world.  We all don’t need to be Mother Teresa or the Dalai Lama, but making an impact on just one person can change their perspective, help them find gratitude, and most of all be touched by a simple act of kindness.

I can get lost in the mundane,  so these reminders allow me to be mindful of every moment, to not be ashamed of my battle scars, for those are what make up the story of my life.  Rest in peace Ronda.  You represented your life well.
