Believable

When I think of retirement, I picture us traveling, doing home improvements, and hopefully, Brian finding a hobby outside of the home.  You see, I want to still like him and spending 24/7 together would ruin that.   I tell you this because Bailey apparently has been talking about it.   At the ripe old age of 22, he had told his coworkers that he will be retiring after Bryce graduates.   Isn’t that adorable?

At first, I was horrified and fearful wondering if he will have a job now that he broadcasted his plans.    You see, the funny thing about my boy is that people take him seriously.   When asked about why he said this, his response was, “I don’t know.”  My only assumption is that he genuinely feels that Bryce is his anchor for that job rather than he is holding that position because of his work ethic…..sometimes.    His work ethic can easily be distracted when his social game is called upon.

Bailey has been known to express things that aren’t remotely factual.  One time he told someone after he flipped them off, that I taught him that.  In fact, he went on to say that I give him the finger all of the time.    Ummmm………no.    He told another person, when asked about his birthmark, that he was in a fire and that is a scar from it.    I will give him credit that his imagination and storytelling abilities are legendary.

I have assured him he isn’t retiring. That he will work at Trinity for as long as they will have him.  That Bryce graduating isn’t connected to his job.   He shrugged his shoulders and walked away which is pretty standard for him.   Having Down syndrome certainly doesn’t affect his attitude.    He spends a great deal of his time rolling his eyes and professing “Mom, I’ve got this!”.    The reality is that I know he really does.
