Making The Effort

I made a pledge yesterday that I would present a positive and supportive aura. Committing to not use passive/aggressive comments in an effort to shame or manipulate my spouse about his current situation. But then, he tested me. Christ. On. A. Cracker.

My delightful spouse decided to do yoga. I am proud that he is starting to make some changes in his lifestyle in order to curb his health issues that include diabetes, but he chose our living room as his workout facility. Friends, we have five televisions that could be used to facilitate this particular yoga program plus a workout area downstairs. But no, let’s do it in the living room where I am residing. I kept my mouth shut. My tongue was almost shredded from the effort it took to not say a word.

First of all, he hasn’t worked out since the Ronald Reagan years. (Joking….maybe it was Obama’s first term.) Anyway, we are literally less than 10 feet away from each other. I tried to concentrate on the task I was working on, but I simply couldn’t look away. It wasn’t that I wanted to say anything unkind, it was more like I wanted to roll on the floor in fits of laughter. I didn’t. I maintained a serious poker face and finally, left the room in an effort to keep my composure.

Balance is key in yoga and Brian was struggling. Arms flailing. Legs shaking. The Bassets thought this was a new game, so they joined in as well. It was a sight to see. After he was finished, I was able to request that any future workouts be done downstairs. I said it without being an asshole. It was hard, friends. Hopefully, today, I won’t be tested.
