Leading

Sometimes it is simply leading by example that morphs into change. I wear pants, suddenly my spouse is following suit. I adopt a healthier lifestyle, and Brian is asking me to buy Chia seeds and almond milk. It is all so amazing and weird at the same time. Oh, and for the record, I kept singing, “Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia” from that ridiculous commercial for Chia pets.

When he asked me to purchase those items at the store, I kept my mouth shut in an effort to be supportive. Even though I thought that possibly there had been an alien abduction or an apocalypse was on the horizon. You see, my spouse doesn’t really do healthy. But since he is keeping track of his blood sugar instead of pretending he isn’t diabetic, I am seeing a gradual shift in his attitude.

Of course, I would like the credit. For four months, I have worked my ass off (literally) to lose over 17 inches and 15 pounds. Sure, everyone is probably sick of listening to me gush over my success, but I don’t care. I am a 51 years old woman with two pack abs (the other four are on the horizon). I would like to think that leading by example has been instrumental in this shift for him. It is the idea of attraction versus promotion.

No, I don’t think I am that powerful and yes, I give him many kudos for trying new things and making an effort to switch up his health. Life is a series of opportunities. You can seize them or dismiss them. I am adopting the motto, “you do you, boo” because if it is up to me, I delight in instructing others on how to do their life the right way. Honestly, I don’t know what I am doing half of the time, so I am probably not the best source. In the meantime, Brian is enjoying his Chia pudding made with almond milk and I am struggling not to sing the jingle for that dumb ass commercial.
